Based on the old cinema, building of the archaeological museum of modern standards has started. The minister of the Regional Development of Infrastructure of Georgia, Zurab Alavidze, the minister of Culture and Sports, Mikheil Giorgadze, the deputy of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Dimitri Khundadze, the director of the Cultural Inheritance Protection Agency, Nikoloz Antidze and the representatives of the local government were attending the opening ceremony. The project is implemented by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia and by financial assistance of the World Bank. Its value is over 8.5 million GEL. As a result of the reconstruction of the old building, exhibition and conference halls, storerooms, café and other rooms will be allocated in the building. The project also includes the conservation of the archaeological monument “Mtskheta Gate”. The surrounding area will be refined and equipped with outer lights, parking area and other infrastructural elements. The project was worked out by the methodological instructions of the World Inheritance Center of UNESCO, considering all the modern museum standards.
